La historia de «Mixed emotions»

«Mixed Emotions» nació en Montserrat, donde Mick Jagger y Keith Richards coincidieron de vacaciones. El tema fue un esfuerzo conjunto justo después de un periodo de tensión y distanciamiento entre ambos: Richards llevó su propia música a las sesiones y buena parte de la letra, y Jagger se encargó de completar el resto en el estudio. Se publicó como primer single de Steel Wheels el 21 de agosto de 1989.

En Estados Unidos fue número uno en la lista de rock de álbumes y alcanzó el número cinco en la Hot 100, y sigue siendo el último top 10 de los Stones en ese país. El vídeo los mostraba sonrientes y juguetones, tanto interpretando la canción como grabándola, en contraste con el de «One Hit (To the Body)», rodado en 1986 en pleno mal momento entre Jagger y Richards. Ya en 2005, la mezcla de doce pulgadas del productor Chris Kimsey se recuperó para el recopilatorio Rarities 1971–2003.
